Experience

present

NLP Research Assistant + NLP Teaching Assistant at University of Pennsylvania - Department of Computer and Information Science

I worked as an NLP Research Assistant on the Human Interpretable Attribution of Text using Underlying Structure (HIATUS) project at Penn NLP, under the supervision of Professor Chris Callison-Burch. My specific focus was a subproject with Professor Marianna Apidianaki and PhD candidate Ajay Patel, where we explored the use of synthetic data to train more interpretable word embeddings. In addition to my research, I serve as a Natural Language Processing (NLP) Teaching Assistant for the CIS 530 course at the University of Pennsylvania. In this role, I support students by answering their questions on concepts and homework during office hours and on the online discussion board. I am also responsible for grading assignments, drafting quizzes, and mentoring students on their course projects, helping them develop a thorough understanding of NLP principles and techniques.

Data Engineer at UISEE (An Autonomous Vehicle company)

I have developed APIs for an internal S3-like storage service at UISEE, a self-driving car company in China. Additionally, I participated in a larger project which leveraged Alluxio to create an internal cloud drive that researchers can easily mount to their local machines. This cloud drive simplifies machine learning pipelines by automatically updating with the latest training data, ensuring seamless access to the most current datasets. Through these projects, I gained experience in building storage solutions that optimize data access and integration, contributing to more efficient workflows for machine learning research.

Undergraduate Research Assistant at Pennsylvania State University - Department of Statistics

Working on the PHIA (Global HIV Response) Project under the guidance of Professor. Le Bao. I contributed to the data analysis needed to address the global HIV epidemic. My responsibilities included pre-processing, feature engineering, and input data preparation, with the goal of identifying relevant features related to HIV awareness and status for subsequent analysis and model training.
